European Day of Languages 2025-26

As every year, our school proudly celebrated the European Day of Languages, reaffirming our commitment to promoting multilingualism, cultural diversity and international understanding.

The celebration, held on 2nd October 2025, was organised by the English and French teachers and involved pupils from Grades 5 and 6. Through a variety of engaging activities, students explored the importance of learning foreign languages while developing greater awareness of Europe’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.

To introduce the topic, pupils watched an interactive presentation about the languages of Europe.

The presentation was followed by a team quiz game that encouraged them to apply their newly acquired knowledge in a fun and collaborative way.

Students were then invited to reflect on their own language-learning experiences by participating in an online survey. Together, we analysed the results and discussed the challenges learners often face when studying a foreign language, as well as strategies for overcoming them.

The celebration concluded with a truly creative and collaborative activity. Our pupils translated the European Day of Languages Anthem into Greek, sang their version of the anthem and produced a video to participate in the competition organised by the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML).

To make the video even more meaningful, the children illustrated the song lyrics with their own artwork. Their drawings were combined with the music to create a colourful video celebrating languages, creativity and European cooperation.

We are proud of our pupils’ enthusiasm, creativity and teamwork, and we hope that these activities will continue to inspire them to embrace languages as a bridge between people, cultures and ideas.
