A CLEAN OCEAN – An #OceanDecade Laboratory Core Event

 

The ocean is at risk. Society generates a vast range of pollutants and contaminants, including marine debris, plastic, anthropogenic underwater noise, hazardous chemicals and heavy metals. The result is unsustainable for the ocean, human health and livelihoods. Moving forward, it will be critical to fill urgent knowledge gaps and generate priority co-produced and interdisciplinary knowledge. This will underpin solutions co-designed by different stakeholders to eliminate pollution at the source. Introduced by a Core Event hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in partnership with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO), the Laboratory will be complemented by a wide range of international Satellite Activities in a 48-hour time frame.
