Το 6ο Δημοτικό Σχολείο Αιγάλεω βρίσκεται σε μια περιοχή στα δυτικά της Αθήνας, αρκετά υποβαθμισμένη οικονομικά και περιβαλλοντικά, κοντά σε εργοστασιακές μονάδες και εθνικούς δρόμους. Οι κάτοικοι της περιοχής ανήκουν κυρίως στις μεσαίες και χαμηλές κοινωνικο-οικονομικές τάξεις και εργάζονται ως επί το πλείστον σε εργοστάσια, μικρές ιδιωτικές επιχειρήσεις ή σε υπηρεσίες του δημόσιου τομέα. Στο Αιγάλεω διαμένουν πολλοί μετανάστες και πρόσφυγες λόγω των χαμηλών ενοικίων των κατοικιών, αλλά και φοιτητές που φοιτούν στα δύο κοντινά ΤΕΙ. Λόγω της οικονομικής κρίσης, σχεδόν όλες οι οικογένειες μαθητών του σχολείου μας αντιμετωπίζουν την ανεργία και μεγάλες δυσκολίες στην οικονομική τους κατάσταση.

 

Το σχολείο μας είναι δωδεκαθέσιο και έχει εγγεγραμμένους 247 μαθητές ηλικίας 6-12 ετών, αρκετοί από τους οποίους προέρχονται από ξένες χώρες (κυρίως την Αλβανία, το Ιράκ, τη Ρουμανία, την Αίγυπτο και το Πακιστάν), περίπου το 10%. Ανάμεσα στους μαθητές υπάρχουν και 20 με μαθησιακές δυσκολίες, καθώς και 2 με διαγνωσμένο αυτισμό. Για την εκπαιδευτική υποστήριξη αυτών των μαθητών λειτουργεί τμήμα ένταξης με μόνιμο ειδικευμένο εκπαιδευτικό, και υπάρχει επιπλέον ένας εκπαιδευτικός για παράλληλη στήριξη των 2 μαθητών στην τάξη τους. Στο σχολείο εργάζονται συνολικά 14 εκπαιδευτικοί (13 δάσκαλοι και η διευθύντρια) οι οποίοι κατέχουν μόνιμη θέση και 11 εκπαιδευτικοί ειδικοτήτων (αγγλικών-γερμανικών-γαλλικών, φυσικής αγωγής, πληροφορικής, μουσικής, εικαστικών, θεατρικής αγωγής), από τους οποίους οι 3 κατέχουν μόνιμη θέση.

 

Εκτός από τις 12 αίθουσες διδασκαλίας των βασικών μαθημάτων, το σχολείο διαθέτει αίθουσα μουσικής, εργαστήριο πληροφορικής, εργαστήριο φυσικών επιστημών, αίθουσα εκδηλώσεων, αίθουσα τμήματος ένταξης, βιβλιοθήκη, κουζίνα. Όλες οι αίθουσες είναι εξοπλισμένες με υπολογιστή και προβολέα, και από τo 2014 με διαδραστικούς πίνακες.

 

Τέλος, το σχολείο μας από σύστασής του μέχρι και σήμερα υλοποιεί κάθε χρόνο εθνικά προγράμματα που αφορούν στην περιβαλλοντική εκπαίδευση, στην αγωγή υγείας και στον πολιτισμό. Συγκεκριμένα, εδώ και πέντε χρόνια έχει ενταχθεί στο δίκτυο συνεργαζόμενων σχολείων της Unesco, υλοποιώντας τα προγράμματά της και το Σεπτέμβριο του 2015 συμπλήρωσε επιτυχώς το  ετήσιο πρόγραμμα “Δομήνικος Θεοτοκόπουλος – El Greco” στο πλαίσιο εορτασμού 400 ετών από το θάνατο του Έλληνα ζωγράφου.

Εθνικά κι Ευρωπαΐκά Προγράμματα

Εκτός των παραπάνω αναφερόμενων εθνικών προγραμμάτων, το σχολείο μας συμμετείχε ως εταίρος σε διετές ευρωπαϊκό πρόγραμμα Comenius με τίτλο (Living with the elements), το οποίο ολοκλήρωσε τον Ιούνιο του 2014.

Τον Φεβρουάριο του 2014 το σχολείο υποδέχτηκε για μία εβδομάδα 12 εκπαιδευτικούς από την Πολωνία στο πλαίσιο συγχρηματοδοτούμενου ευρωπαϊκού προγράμματος κινητικότητας και κατάρτισης προσωπικού με τίτλο «Many ways, but the same aim», οι οποίοι παρακολούθησαν διδασκαλίες και πραγματοποίησαν δραστηριότητες για τη διδασκαλία των αγγλικών με τη βοήθεια διαδραστικών πινάκων, με την παρουσία και της Σχολικής Συμβούλου των Αγγλικών από τη σχολική μας περιφέρεια.

Τον Σεπτέμβριο του ίδιου έτους ξεκίνησε ετήσιο eΤwinning πρόγραμμα με τίτλο “English Speaking Countries” που ολοκληρώθηκε ένα χρόνο μετά, τον Ιούνιο του 2015.

Από το 2014 μέχρι το 2015, δύο εκπαιδευτικοί του σχολείου μας συμμετείχαν στη δράση “TEACHERS 4 EUROPE”.

Από τον Νοέμβριο του 2014 μέχρι τον Νοέμβριο του 2015 ολοκληρώθηκε επίσης ένα ετήσιο ΚΑ1 Erasmus+ πρόγραμμα με τίτλο “Επιμόρφωση στην ψηφιακή τάξη”.

Το 2015 μία εκπαιδευτικός του σχολείου συμμετείχε στο Ευρωπαΐκό πρόγραμμα του Πανεπιστημίου του Πειραιά “Europe at schools through Art and Simulation”.

Από τον  Σεπτέμβριο του 2014 μέχρι τον Ιούνιο του 2016, το σχολείο μας υλοποίησε επιτυχώς δύο KA2 Erasmus+ προγράμματα. To ένα έχει τίτλο “C.A.T.C.H.” (Children Architects To Create Homes) και το άλλο “ESTHER” (Educating Emotions in Europe).

 

The 6th Primary School of Egaleo is located in an area to the west of Athens, quite degraded both economically and environmentally, near factory farms and national roads. The locals belong to medium and low socio-economic classes and work mostly in factories, small private companies or the public sector. Many immigrants and refugees because of low rent housing, but also students attending the two neighboring Technical Universities, live in Egaleo. Due to the economic crisis, almost all the students of our school families are facing unemployment and great difficulties in their economic situation.

 

The recent refugee wave from Syria and other countries has resulted in the creation of 2 refugee camps in the vicinity of our school. In the current school year, we have no refugees attending the school, but probably in the next school year more refugee pupils will be registered in the public schools. Inevitably, we will be obliged to deal with the inclusion of the refugee children in the school community in an efficient and caring manner.

 

Our school consists of 12 classes and has 234 registered students aged from 6 to12 years old, 10% of whom come from foreign countries (Albania, Iraq, Romania, Egypt and Pakistan). Among the students there are 20 with learning disabilities, and 3 diagnosed with autism. For educational support these students attend an integration class with a specialized trainer, and there is additionally one teacher for simultaneous support of the students with autism, inside their class. There are14 teachers (13 teachers and the headmistress) who hold a permanent position in the school. Also, there are 11 teachers of different specialties (English-German-French, Physical Education, ICT, Music, Art, Theater), three of whom hold a permanent position. All the teachers will participate in the project group, according to their specialties.

 

In addition to the 12 classrooms of the primary basic courses, the school has a music room, a computer lab, a science lab, a conference hall, a class for pupils with learning difficulties, a library, and a kitchen. All rooms are equipped with a computer, projectors and interactive whiteboards, and teachers use ICT tools in everyday teaching.

There is also an active parents council in our school, who participate voluntarily in the school life and they are always willing to assist in the school’s activities. 

NATIONAL AND EUROPEAN PROGRAMMES 

Our school has previously participated in European projects, several eTwinning, one Comenius (2012-14) and two Erasmus+ KA2 projects (2014-2016). We successfully completed the KA1 project “Education in the digital classroom” in 2015, and another KA1 project is running this school year. All the experience gained from implementing such projects has proven to be very valuable to the school teachers, from a pedagogical but also from an administrative point of view. All of them have been provided with a different perspective to face the pupils and deal with issues arising within the school life. It has also helped them  acquire new skills in SEL (social and emotional learning) in order to manage situations that arise in the school in a more thoughtful and caring way. We try to create a friendly and tolerant atmosphere for all pupils, making collaboration and inclusion a standard.

Our pupils have also been accustomed to working in European projects, meeting pupils from other countries and participating in student exchanges.

Finally, our school is part of the school network for the prevention of school violence and bullying called “Stop Bullying”. Each school in the network has formed a Team for Prevention Actions in order to prevent and eradicate bullying incidents.
