Easter! Just around the corner!

Easter is on its way!

Clean Monday ( Greek: Καθαρά Δευτέρα) , is also known as Pure Monday, Ash Monday, Monday of Lent or Green Monday. It is a movable feast that occurs at the beginning of the 7th week before Orthodox Sunday. It is the first day of the Greek Orthodox Lent. The term “Clean Monday” refers to the leaving behind of sinful attitudes and non-fasting foods.

Customs of Clean Monday

Each region has its own customs but in general Clean Monday is celebrated outdoors. This celebration is called koulouma. People fly kites and have picnics. They eat special dishes such as seafood, legumes, fish roe dip ( ταραμοσαλάτα), vegetables and an azyme bread called lagana. As for dessert, they have halva.

Some students of D’ class, who are eagerly looking forward to Easter and of course the Easter holidays,  decided to do a project on Greek Easter customs. See them below.

But some students, recalling the magical time of Christmas, wanted to present Greek Christmas customs instead! So, here is their work!
