New Cafe Menu

SAMOCA proudly announces a freshly updated cafe menu is now available to museum visitors.

The new menu features healthier options, driven by visitor demand. We now offer a salad bar for lunch each day, in addition to two fresh soups. One soup will be vegetarian or vegan each day. The new sandwich bar will make sandwiches on request, rather than the prepackaged sandwiches which were offered before.

Best of all, we've hired Granny Darla to make baked goods for sale each day, including cookies, cakes, muffins, and pie. These items are sure to sell out quickly, so grab them early in the day!

Major Donation Received

We are pleased to announce a major gift to the museum. Dr. and Mrs. Stanley J. Jones, longtime supporters of SAMOCA and art patrons throughout southern California, have graciously donated $200,000 to the museum.

Dr. and Mrs. Jones have stipulated that the money should be used to bring more exhibits from unknown young artists to the museum. Dr. and Mrs. Jones hope that this will launch careers for several of these artists, furthering the field of modern art. The money will help cover travel, shipping, and other expenses related to identifying young artists and creating an exhibit of their work.

New Children's ArtWorks Program Announced

Dr. Shannon Gottschalk, director of SAMOCA, is pleased to announce a new initiative for families and children.

The ArtWorks program is a Saturday morning workshop for children. Led by a different local artist each week, ArtWorks will lead children through creation and appreciation of a wide variety of art techniques. Watercolors, oil paints, pencil and charcoal drawing, and sculpture classes have already been scheduled.

Parents may enroll children between 10 and 18 in the program. The cost is $40 per session, and a discount is available for enrollment in multiple sessions.
