1st Gymnasio of Kos is a public school in the city of Kos. The school offers general education to students aged 12 to 15. It
receives students from different social, financial and cultural backgrounds and it is a multi cultural school. About 30 per cent
of the learners’ population comes from a different nationality background. The school priorities include
1. School performance and social improvement. Education is a very important factor for personal and professional
development for our students.
2. A safe, creative and friendly learning environment
3. Individualised needs. The school caters for every student individually and supports them to overcome educational or
personal problems
4. School activities. The school offers extra curriculum projects to enhance learning culture and special interests
5. Synergies. The school is in connection with local authorities 6. European dimension. The school wants to reinforce
European identity for students.
Our school seeks cooperation at local, regional, national and international level. We have collaborated with many partners
from public and private sector to improve educational opportunities for our school. We have also worked with experts and
multiplier teachers for in-service training at school. At local level, we cooperate with other schools, Guardians’ association,
non profit organizations and teachers’ associations. At regional level, we collaborate with Directorate of Secondary
Education and schools from the region. At national level, we implement pilot projects by the Ministry of Education or other
educational institution. At international level, we do not have any previous experience and we can be considered
“newcomers”. We have only attended meetings and students’ exchanges from other schools in Kos, which were actually the
motivation to apply for Erasmus projects.
