April was a joyful and enriching month, offering many opportunities for learning through celebration, creativity and exploration.
At the beginning of the month, we focused on the theme of Easter, which provided a meaningful context for both creative expression and early academic skills. Through stories such as Jellybean and the Unbreakable Egg and Peter Rabbit, the children developed their listening and comprehension skills while engaging in discussions about traditions. Hands-on activities such as Easter egg art, sticker creations and the egg hunt supported fine motor development and encouraged problem-solving and cooperation. Literacy and numeracy were also integrated through writing simple Easter messages and participating in number recognition and sequencing games. Our cooking activity further enhanced practical life skills, as children practiced measuring, mixing and following instructions. A highlight of the week was our visit to the Vikelaia Library, where children explored a real-world learning environment, strengthening their understanding of how books are used and organized. Creating their own books following the visit encouraged imagination, storytelling and early writing skills.
Following the Easter break, we dedicated time to reconnecting as a group, with a strong focus on cooperation and team bonding. Through sharing their Easter experiences, children practiced communication and confidence in expressing their thoughts. Group games and activities were carefully chosen to promote collaboration, turn-taking and mutual respect. Stories such as The Enemy Pie supported discussions around friendship, empathy and conflict resolution. Activities like the “Ball of Kindness,” friendship portraits and collaborative games helped children recognize the importance of kindness and inclusion. Creative tasks and sensory experiences, including playdough work and relaxation activities with natural materials, supported emotional regulation and self-expression. Overall, this week played an important role in strengthening social relationships and building a positive classroom community.
During the final week of April, our learning expanded to a broader perspective as we explored the world map and developed an early understanding of geography. The children were introduced to continents and countries, engaging in activities that encouraged curiosity about different cultures and ways of life. Building on their interests, we focused on Africa, particularly safari animals, which sparked great enthusiasm. Through stories, art activities and movement games, the children developed their knowledge of animals while enhancing their creativity and physical coordination. Exploring African traditions, including music, dance and face painting, allowed the children to experience cultural diversity in an engaging and respectful way. Activities such as building huts and participating in imaginative play further supported problem-solving, cooperation and creativity. This thematic approach helped children make connections between their interests and the wider world, fostering curiosity and global awareness.
April was a month that combined joyful experiences with meaningful learning opportunities. It was wonderful to see the children growing in confidence, strengthening their social skills and developing a deeper curiosity about the world around them. We look forward to continuing this journey together in the months ahead.
