February’s Newsletter
Inspired by the national celebration of the three Hierarchs, the kindergarten planned and implemented activities to enhance kindness among children and their interest in reading and writing. ‘’Malala’s Magic Pencil’’ by Malala Yousafzai, ‘’Have you fill a bucket today?’’ by Carol McCloud, and ‘’Αλφαβητάρι με γλωσσοδέτες’’ by Eugenios Trivizas were the stories that have been used for this thematic. In an extension of that the students participated in small and large group games such as the compliment round, there is a space on my right, I’d like to say thank you to…, letter art with veggies, and if I had a magic pen art and craft project.
Students playing robots, and talking about robotic toys and appliances gave us the idea to support the class in getting to know more about different categories of robots, their characteristics, and their benefits in people’s lives. Stem activities with loose parts such as building my robot, flashcards with the various types of them, robotic models’ exploration, robots art with shapes, robots movement games, and robots making tea science activity were some of the things that the kids enjoyed during those days.
Due to the Valentine’s celebration, the third week of February students were encouraged to spread actions and messages of love to friends and significant others. Valentine’s cards, friendship necklaces, heart-shaped wall art, Valentine’s sensory trays, group games like find your matching pair or say something nice, books about feelings and love such as ’’In my Heart’’, by Jo Witek and ’’Σε αγαπάω λέμε’’ by Jory John were planned to explore the emotion of love, care and to make the bonds among the young learners stronger.
At the end of the month, kindergarten got familiar with different places in the world. Through stem activities, maps, world puzzles, and pictures the students explored the continents, the most known world monuments, greeting words in different languages, and shared their traveling experiences with the rest of the group. Travel-themed games that the kids enjoyed were the packing my suitcase game, we are going on a road trip and ‘’hello’’ around the world. The week ended with our trip to Pastarella restaurant where the kids played and learned how to make one of the most famous Italian food, pizza.
