projects in A lykeiou in greek schools

In principle, a project must meet the students interests and needs and is intended to help students gain a deeper insight to what they learn in a subject and at the same time to develop other skills such as to be able to cooperate, to gather info and sort it out keeping what info seems appropriate for a cerain cause, to manage their time, to negotiate, to discover and learn by doing, to be active learners.

Coming to the present situation, as not all teachers  are trained to guide and support students in such an endeavor, the ministry of education has designed a guide where the philosophy of projects  is explained and instructions are given as to how students should work.

In addition to this, there are some tools presented in this so-called teacher’s book like a student’s diary, an evaluation sheet for the team work as well as a self evaluation sheet.

Moreover there are some criteria against which the students’ final product (report, presentation, etc) and their individual performance will be evaluated.

In case there are teachers who are not aware of the existence of this material, I thought I could be of some help.

So, you can find this guide on http://digitalschool.minedu.gov.gr/ . Then go to to the right top corner and click on

geniko lykeio, and then A Lykeiou, and  then Ερευνητικές Εργασίες -Project (A Γενικού Λυκείου- Γενικής Παιδείας).

Then go to the left and click on Αρχεία Μαθήματος, then βιβλίο εκπαιδευτικού and then ενέργειες.

You can read the book on-line, download it or even print it.

There are some forms that students must fill in every time they work on their project. In my school, we dublicated these forms (diary pages, self-evaluation sheets, the criteria, etc), we collected them all to form the content of a dossier and gave our students one each. They were also given a folder to keep anything that, to their judgement, best documents their work and we have a big folder where we keep the product of the class’s work.

I hope I have been of some help.
