“Many Rivers to Cross” is a song written and recorded in 1969 by Jimmy Cliff. It has since been recorded by many musicians, including Eric Burdon & The Animals.

The Animals were an English rock band, formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1960s. The band moved to London upon finding fame in 1964. The Animals were known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon.

Many rivers to cross
But I can’t seem to find my way over
Wandering I am lost
As I travel along the white cliffs of Dover

Many rivers to cross
And it’s only my will that keeps me alive
I’ve been licked, washed up for years
And I merely survive because of my pride

And this loneliness just won’t leave me alone
Such a drag to be on your own
My woman left and she didn’t say why
Well I guess, I’ll have to try

And this memory just won’t leave me alone
It’s such a drag to be on your own
My little woman left and she didn’t say why
Well I guess, I’ll have to try

Many rivers to cross
And here’s where to begin, I’m playing for time
There’s been times I found myself
Thinking of committing some terrible crime

Yes, I’ve got many rivers to cross
And I can’t seem to find my way over
Wandering I am lost
As I travel along the white cliffs of Dover
