1st May – International Worker’s Day

The first of May is a national, public holiday in many countries across the world also known as “Labour Day” or “International Worker’s Day”. It is actually a celebration of the working classes and has its origin back in 1886 in Chicago when the Labour Union asked for eight hours work per day. We also celebrate it as the day of flowers and Spring. In some parts of England and America there is the custom of Maypole Dance where children dance aroud a pole to celebrate Spring.
