Το σχολείο μας/ OUR SCHOOL

SHORT INTRO FOR NOW, MORE IS TO COME LATER:

About our school, Middle school of Glafki: Our location is the city of Xanthi. The school is located in the Pomaks’ area, in the Rodopi mountain, only half an hour (or 40 mins) away from the city of Xanthi. The teachers are all national Greeks and reside in Xanthi, while all of our students come from the nearby villages to the school, they are Pomaks, they are muslims by religion (very moderate) and speak a south slavic idiom as their mother tongue, they are mostly fair haired (Greeks are normally darker) and they are very kind and shy.
The city of Xanthi is half an hour or less away from the beaches. The river Nestos is 15 mins away from the city.
Thermal springs in Thermi and roman monuments are very close to the school location (not to the city).
The homecity of Democritus, Avdira, is half an hour away from Xanthi (my husband works there). The sight is marvelous.
Kavala is an hour away from Xanthi.
The island of Thassos is two hours away (including the ferry boat time) from Xanthi.
Thessaloniki is 2,5 hours away.
Bulgaria is about 35kms away but 1 hour of driving into the wild nature (I guess you have that in Italy too), to get to the borders and to Zlatograd.
Borders with Turkey is about 1,5 hour away and Edirne (Adrianopolis) is about 2,5 hours away from Xanthi.
In the middle, there are a lot to see too.
