This March 25th 2021 saw the entire planet’s Hellenes showcase their patriotism and Hellenism like never before. The blue and white commenced its feature from the Sydney Opera house in Australia all the way to various landmarks in Asia, Europe and North America. In Africa, the largest Hellenic flag in the world was put on display in South Africa. Hellenes made the most of the opportunities presented to them, to announce, spread and express their traditional celebrations of the 200 years since the commencement of the revolution against ottoman occupation.
We at the Bloemfontein Hellenic Community, a small community in the centre of South Africa too partook in the above celebrations. Keeping in line with the protocols and taking into consideration the risk of hosting an event in these times, we decided it wise to create a production which would allow all parents, grandparents near and far enjoy their children’s poetry and some well thought of entertainment for the day.
The project in our opinion was a great success as we managed to realise donations to cover the cost of the entire production, not having had any functions since March 2020, this was a successful realisation of our goal, namely : To showcase our community, its talent, to its members and the world, at no cost to the community. Thank you to all the donors and participants for placing our humble community on the map.
