Shrove Tuesday – Pancake Day

Did you know that there is a day for Christians around the world that is the equivalent to Clean Monday?
Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Lent. Historically, people had to cook and eat all the dairy and eggs they had before Lent started. They started cooking pancakes combining eggs, milk and butter resulting in the beginning of Pancake Day.
In some countries, there are celebrations on pancake day such as races, or flip-the-pancake competition.

The next day, the first day of Lent is called Ash Wednesday and people go to church. The priest uses ashes from last year’s palm branches to make a cross on people’s forehead.
