Connecting the past with the present

Sometimes something that happened in the past can affect the present. For example:

The boy has hurt his knee.

Explanation:

Now: The boy is using cratches. He can’t walk.

Yesterday: The boy fell and hurt his knee.

Present Perfect Simple is used to connect the past and the present.

KEY WORDS: yet, still, already, ever, never, just, so far, up to now, recently, lately, for, since.

√ I/You/We/They have played tennis today.

? Have I/you/we/they played tennis today?

× I/You/We/They haven’t played tennis today.

√ He/She/It has cleaned the room.

? Has  he/she/it cleaned the room?

× He/She/It hasn’t cleaned the house yet.

Regular verbs spelling rules:

1. play-played, follow-followed, clean-cleaned
2. study-studied
3. bake-baked, live-lived
4. stop-stopped
