Αυτό που κάνει αυτή την ταινία τόσο ξεχωριστή είναι ότι λειτουργεί σε τόσα πολλά επίπεδα. Λειτουργεί κωμικά, αλλά λίγο πιο βαθιά βρίσκουμε μια αλληγορία για τον σύγχρονο κόσμο μας που φέρει μια ανησυχητική προειδοποίηση. Τι συμβαίνει όταν οι πεποιθήσεις  επιβάλλονται σε τέτοιο βαθμό ώστε να  αμφισβητούνται οι βασικές γνώσεις; Τι συμβαίνει σε ένα κόσμο όπου το δικαίωμα στην ελευθερία του λόγου γίνεται πιο σημαντικό από την αναγνώριση των γεγονότων; Η ηρωίδα μας αντιμετωπίζει την κατάσταση με αξιοπρέπεια, ψυχραιμία και στεγνό χιούμορ, βαθιά πεπεισμένη ότι στο τέλος  κοινός νους θα υπερισχύσει. Πού έχει κρυφτεί όμως ο κοινός νους στο σύγχρονο κόσμο;

“Float” short film

“Float” short filmundefined

Float is a 2019 American animated short film directed and written by Bobby Rubio, produced by Pixar Animation Studios. It focuses on a boy’s ability to fly and the choice his father must make.

In Float, a father discovers that his son is different from other kids in the most unusual way – he can float in the air. To keep them both safe from judgment, Dad covers him and keeps him out of sight – but when his son’s ability becomes public, Dad must decide whether to run and hide or to accept his son as he is.

Float was inspired by the creator’s own son, who was diagnosed with autism.

This short film gives off the message that the best thing you can do as a parent is love and support your child’s uniqueness and individuality rather than pressuring them in what you want them to be. It is a wonderful animation with a warm positive message.

A lonely, forgotten dog has been left on Mars until one day, a mission-driven rover arrives and gives her the chance to finally return home.

“Laika and Rover” was inspired by the true (and tragic) story of Laika, the dog that was sent into space in 1957 as part of the Soviet Space Program. I wanted to tell a “what-if” story that would give Laika a happier ending”, says the creator of this touching short animation.

One of the film creators said. “‘One Small Step’ is a thank you to my mother who supported me in my pursuit of being an artist. She came to the United States from the Philippines to make her dreams happen, and that’s inspired me more than she knows to persist after mine.”

“Hair love” short film

“Hair love” short film

 Hair Love is a 2019 American animated short film written and directed by Matthew A. Cherry. It won Best Animated Short Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.

 Seven-year-old Zuri attempts to style her thick, natural hair while watching an instructional video narrated by her mother. Her father, Stephen, attempts to help her and, after much effort, styles her hair. Zuri then shows her dad the video of her mom styling her hair, so that he could do the same. They enter a hospital room where her mother is wearing a scarf and sitting in a wheelchair. Her mother removes her scarf to reveal that her head is completely bald, the result of chemotherapy for cancer. The family members hug each other and return home together.

 Hair Love is a sweet and joyful story about an African-American father learning to style his daughter’s natural hair in his wife’s absence. This sounds simple enough, but we soon come to find that Zuri’s hair has a mind of its own. It is also about a daughter who wants to do her hair and look her best for her mom, who doesn’t have any. Both father and daughter rush to see their wife and mother in the hospital and make her feel better. It’s a touching tale, both sad and hopeful, a portrait of a family trying to survive through tough times.

 The film is about loving your hair and loving yourself.   People have praised it for its positive message about embracing your natural hair and a dad’s love for his daughter. It has also opened up a wider conversation about society’s perception of afro hair and the acceptable norms around it.
