TITLE:
Beautiful environment
DESCRIPTION
While trying to improve the natural environment, we decided that having a beautiful city is important too. We invited a volunteer group that decorates electricity boxes by paintings and we supported them to make paintings in the village.
The idea was implemented together with the Mayor of the village

TITLE:
Refostering the area around school
DESCRIPTION
Unfortunately the big fires of July 2023 burnt the majority of the area around our school. We were unable to do something by ourselves so we contacted the Municipality to re-plant an area and to offer ourselves as volunteers.
The Municipality organized a re planting and all the school students helped. It was tragic to see the forest after the fire.

To re forest an area near school. To see the burnt area closely, to understand the importance of forest, to take action for protection of environment

Eco activity A green school yard
TITLE:
A green school
DESCRIPTION
Our school has a yard and a small garden. We decided to take initiative and to make them greener and more beautiful.
We decided to plant herbs and small plants. We did everything by ourselves and we agreed to take care of them for the next years.
AIM
Create a greener school, understand the importance of plants and develop environmental awareness
STEPS
Our teachers told us about Mediterranean climate and Mediterranean vegetation
We read many books about the plants of Rodos and we discussed which plants we know and which ones we would like to have at school
We asked a gardener if these plants could grow and ways to take care of them
We brought stones from the beach to decorate the garden
After all, we saw that it was very easy to grow the plants

No cost. The plants were donated by Municipality but in any case the cost is from 3-5 euros per plant. We used plants that can be easily propagated
Eco activity Cat houses
TITLE:
Cat houses by second hand items
DESCRIPTION
There are a lot of stray cats that live in the school area. The idea was to create cat houses with second hand materials and at the same time to show respect for the strays. We used card boxes, old clothes, felizol, plastic covers to make the cat houses. We made posters with legislation about animal protection so that students and citizens do not behave badly to animals. We bought food for the animals and we cared to have always fresh water for them.

DESCRIPTION
The environmental group of Gymnasio Lykeio Gennadiou offered to disseminate their experiences from Erasmus project Eco school. They sent a request to all Secondary Schools in Rhodes to work together and to learn together

TITLE:
Fires around Gennadi
DESCRIPTION
Students write their memories, experiences and emotions about the big fires in Rodos Greece in summer 2023
AIM
To write down personal experiences that reflect the feelings of residents in the area
To present the catastrophic consequences of the fires in the area
To present emotions and fears of the residents
To write down experiences from a major event, the fires, in personal and professional life
STEPS
Students are given the link of a Padlet and are asked to write down their experiences, in Greek, English or any other language. They can add photos and videos from their personal archive.

Environmental group at school
DESCRIPTION
Bonding of environmental group of school through activities by an NGO. The students work in learning by doing methods by specialists of the NGO. The NGO Hλιοτρόπιο has been active in helping people recover after the destructive fires of summer 2023 in Rodos

Organization of the School Year
The organization of the school year for upper secondary school is fixed at central level. School year begins on September 1st and ends on August 31st of the following year. The teaching year begins on September 1st and ends on June 30th while the teaching of subjects begins on September 11th and ends in the middle of May.
