Collecting old T shirts to make rugs
DESCRIPTION
The school set empty card boxes for students to throw away old T shorts. Then old T shirts are used to make rugs. A creative idea that supports recycling, circular economy and produces useful household items

Eco activity Painting on burnt wood
TITLE:
Painting on burnt wood to be presented at school
DESCRIPTION
Students visited the burnt area in the forest near Guimar. They collected pieces of burnt wood and then had them painted at school. All the paintings were used for decoration at school corridor

DESCRIPTION
While trying to improve the natural environment, we decided that having a beautiful city is important too. We invited a volunteer group that decorates electricity boxes by paintings and we supported them to make paintings in the village.
The idea was implemented together with the Mayor of the village

TITLE:
Refostering the area around school
DESCRIPTION
Unfortunately the big fires of July 2023 burnt the majority of the area around our school. We were unable to do something by ourselves so we contacted the Municipality to re-plant an area and to offer ourselves as volunteers.
The Municipality organized a re planting and all the school students helped. It was tragic to see the forest after the fire.

DESCRIPTION
Our school has a yard and a small garden. We decided to take initiative and to make them greener and more beautiful.
We decided to plant herbs and small plants. We did everything by ourselves and we agreed to take care of them for the next years.

Our teachers told us about Mediterranean climate and Mediterranean vegetation
We read many books about the plants of Rodos and we discussed which plants we know and which ones we would like to have at school
We asked a gardener if these plants could grow and ways to take care of them
We brought stones from the beach to decorate the garden
After all, we saw that it was very easy to grow the plants

Eco activity Cat houses
TITLE:
Cat houses by second hand items
DESCRIPTION
There are a lot of stray cats that live in the school area. The idea was to create cat houses with second hand materials and at the same time to show respect for the strays. We used card boxes, old clothes, felizol, plastic covers to make the cat houses. We made posters with legislation about animal protection so that students and citizens do not behave badly to animals. We bought food for the animals and we cared to have always fresh water for them.
