Pancake Day began in the 15th century in England. The custom began as follows:
A woman was cooking pancakes when she heard the church bell ringing. To catch the Service she left her house with her apron on, her scarf and the pan with the pancake in her hand! In order not to burn the pancake she tossed it three times until she got to the church.
The custom is one day before Lent. The British fry pancakes because people can’t eat dairy products during Lent.Women usually participate, they wear: an apron, a scarf and hold a pan with the pancake in their hand. The most famous pancake race takes place at Olney.

Hello! We are the 6th class of the 1st Primary School of Akrata and we’re writing about an event that happened in our school on Friday, 24th February.
On Friday morning we had to have ingredients to cook pancakes because on 21th it was Shrove Tuesday-Pancake Day in England . Then we read Miss L’s recipe and we prepared the batter.
Two mothers of our classmates ( Mrs Mary and Mrs Vessie ) helped us to cook the batters that we made. Three children of our class made the awards for the winner classes ( spatulas ). Then we prepared a theatrical play to present the custom of Pancake Race to our school .
When we finished the script, we prepared the stage and we invited the other classes and the kindergarten to see our performance (Our Pancake theatrical play ).
Then, we began the race . At first, all classes raced.
The funniest moment was ”The teachers’ race”. We laughed very much!!!
We are so excited because we made the children and the teachers to have fun !!!

This theatrical play presents Shrove Tuesday. We wrote it on February 24th because we wanted to show the children of our school what is Shrove Tuesday.
We played it and presented to the children of our school and the children of the nursery school. The roles were:
The housewife- Ntaiz
People- Original, Betty Boo, Robin, Twitte and Baboulas
The priest- Bobhras
The narrators- FBI and the key
The other children liked it and clapped us.
