“Graffiti City Tales” video competition

The Educational Television of Ministry of Education and ERT World launch an international youth video competition under the title “Graffiti City Tales”. They invite young people of all over the world to participate.

Read your city: the walls tell their own stories

Walk through the streets. Look around you. Pay attention. Lean on the walls. Gaze at the train surfaces, the street signs, the abandoned cars … Read their stories. Look at their paintings and colors. Pay attention to the solitary words and phrases, to their letters. Observe even their mess. Discover their hidden messages. Tell what they tell. Imagine even a different city and tell through a video a story about your city, about you.

Why graffiti?

Nowadays graffiti is an international form of art, which uses the public space to express itself. With bold images, slogans, and symbols it is a forum of unrestrained communication and social criticism. This creative art challenges, in a sense, the public and the individual to think, interpret and fit it into her/his private world.

This video competition is an opportunity for young people to express their views on graffiti, to narrate their personal perception and experience of life in the city; how they live in their towns, how they communicate via graffiti, how they express themselves,  what graffiti means about their creativity, their inventiveness, about their bonding, expression, and participation in the public dialogue on social issues, politics, and art.
