Dear colleaugues, friends and students.
We live in a fast-changing world and we are in front of many challenges.
Life today is more complicated than it was years ago, when teachers expected that the given
knowledge to their students was enough and would last a life time.
Economic changes lead to more uncertainty about the specific knowledge and skills needed
for tomorrow’s jobs. . Schools have to prepare their students for this constant changes in the
working environment during their future career.
In recent years it has become clear that academic subjects such as reading, writing, science,
math, languages, social studies, and the arts remain the foundation of a comprehensive
education. But they are not enough. The importance of 21st century in non-cognitive skills
such as critical thinking, , appling knowledge at high levels, and using technology to access
and evaluate, ,is pronounced.
The FUTURE IS NOW. And that is a great and new educational challenge.
The challenge we all face is the gap between what our schools are teaching now versus the
skills student needs to have for the demands of 21st century learning and their future career
as global citizens. We must empowered young people’s ability to use their knowledge and
skills to meet real-life challenges, rather than just examining them to a specific school
curriculum.
But how shall we accomplish all of these ; Is there any way ; and in which way?
We can manage it by incorporated them in our teaching with the contribution of new
technologies
These literacies and skills that our students need to develop are not tought as separate
literacies but across the content areas.
But don’t forget. New technologies are only the means. The role of the teacher is important as
HE is the responsible to design a plethora of tools for an effective training program .
BUT…What are the 21st century skills?
what does this actually mean?

The term 21st century skills refers to a broad set of knowledge, skills, work habits, and
character traits that are believed to be critically important to success in today’s world,
particularly in academic programs and contemporary careers and workplaces. Generally
speaking, 21st century skills can be applied in all academic subject areas, and in all
educational, career, and civic settings throughout a student’s life.
Creativity and innovation
most of us consider that creativity is the privilege of artists . This is a myth … and rebutted by the
words of a very great person who you all of you know . Its Steve Jobs,mr apple, when he says that
creativity is just connecting things. And people who had more experiences or they thought more
about their experiences than other people are real creators.
Communication and collaboration, are not happening any more in a classroom but happen
across the country and even more across the world. Students use digital media and
environments as facebook, twitter, you tube, they communicate creating their own blogs and
wikis and work collaboratively using tools and platforms as todaysmeet, edmondo, stixy or
AnswerGarden. They use their adroind phones every day with lots of educational
applications.
Research and information fluency
Information Fluency is the ability to find, evaluate and ethically use digital
information efficiently and effectively to solve an information problem. Students
apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use these information.
Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making in every class and all grade
levels.
Maybe our students are well prepared to recognise and solve a mathematics-related problem.
But they also have to be prepared to deal with unfamiliar situations by thinking flexibly and
creatively. They must be able to describe a problem in depth by examining it through various
purposes : ethical, political, economic, etc , to compare and evaluate diverse information
sources and formulate logical conclusions that are not immediately obvious.
Digital citizenship
When students work and are educated in this global community need to understand and
respect cultural, religious, social or racial differences, ideas, feelings, values of other team
members ,as there no borders in this shared knowledge .
Technology operations and concepts
Our students today have the incredible benefit of using technology not only to access new
ideas and global perspectives, but also to personalize and take control of their learning.

Success in the 21st century requires knowing how to learn.
Education today is much more about ways of thinking .
Or ways of working.
Education is about the capacity to live in a multi-faceted world as an active and engaged
citizen.
These citizens influence what they want to learn and how they want to learn it, and it is this
that shapes the role of teachers.
Thank you
