Το κανονικό της όνομα είναι Avril Ramona Lavigne. Γεννήθηκε στις 27 Σεπτεμβρίου 1984 στο Belleville της περιοχής Οντάριο του Καναδά. Η Avril είναι τραγουδίστρια, συνθέτης, σχεδιάστρια μόδας και ηθοποιός. Ο πατέρας της είναι Γάλλος και ονομάζεται John και η μητέρα της είναι Γαλλο-Καναδή και ονομάζεται Judy. Πήρε το όνομά της από τη λέξη Απρίλιος στα γαλλικά. Έχει ένα μεγαλύτερο αδερφό, τον Matthew, και μια μικρότερη αδερφή, την Michelle. Στην ηλικία των δύο ετών, η Avril ξεκίνησε να τραγουδάει εκκλησιαστικά τραγούδια μαζί με τη μητέρα της. Το 1998 κέρδισε έναν διαγωνισμό τραγουδιού μαζί με την Καναδή τραγουδίστρια Shania Twain, στην πρώτη της μεγάλη συναυλία. Εμφανίστηκε χωρίς την Twain σε μια συναυλία στην Οττάβα με το τραγούδι ‘What Made You Say That’. Τα άλμπουμ της έχουν πουληθεί πάνω από τριάντα χιλιάδες φορές παγκοσμίως. Είναι ηδη μια από τις καλλιτέχνιδες με τις περισσότερες επιτυχημένες πωλήσεις των μουσικών άλμπουμ της στις Η.Π.Α. Κάποια από τα ποιό γνωστά της άλμπουμ είναι το ‘Let Go’ το ‘Under My Skin’ και το ‘The Best Damm Thing’.
