A glimpse into my country

Hello, I’m Sophia, or as we say in my country: “Γειά, με λένε Σοφία”. I’m from Salamina, Greece.In Greece, we say “γειά” for hello and like most Europeans, we often shake hands! One of our traditional foods is mousaka. Mousaka is very popular and tourists who visit Greece often want to taste it. Even though mousaka is popular, souvlaki is the most famous Greek traditional food. 

Greeks love going out to restaurants to eat but we also enjoy family gatherings. Almost everybody likes traditional music and knows how to dance as well, so once the music starts, Greeks enjoy themselves!

‘Gia!’. I’m Konstantina and I’m from Salamina, a small island in Greece. In my country, we say ‘Kalimera’ for ‘Good morning’. ‘Pos eiste’ for ‘How are you’ and ‘Gia’ for ‘Hello’. Body language is really important, too. When we point our finger to our chest, we mean ‘me’, when we raise our eyebrows we mean ‘no’. Also, when we greet each other, we usually kiss twice on the cheeks.

Our traditional foods are ‘souvlaki’, ‘mousaka’, ‘pastitsio’, choriatiki salata’ and ‘dry beans soup’. In Greece, we enjoy going to restaurants or cafes in our spare time. We also love music and we have our traditional dances like ‘ikariotikos’, hassapiko’, ‘sirtaki’, and ‘tsamikos’. We like going to museums like ‘The Acropolis Museum’ and ‘The Benaki Museum’. Greece’s popular sports are football, basketball and volleyball.
