Modern Greek Studies in Turkey: the new ways of research
The present study deals with the development of Modern Greek Studies within the framework of academic education in Turkey. More specifically, it focuses on the field of Modern Greek Literature Translation and the research perspectives of Turks who attend studies in Modern Greek language, literature and history. A crucial parameter of the wider discussion on the development and perspectives of Modern Greek Studies in Turkey is the relationship between the translated Modern Greek literature texts and the literary canon which is taught in Modern Greek departments. The presence of Modern Greek Language and Literature departments in Turkish is considered positive. The Turks neohellenists in cooperation with the specialists on Ottoman and Turkish literature can pave new pathways in research. Building on their mother tongue, they can promote research in new fields, such as the presence of Greek scholars in the late ottoman period or the representation of the Greek-Turkish coexistence from the perspective of comparative studies.
