DEFINITION 2
Improvisation in a simple way is defined as unplanned creation. Man’s need for improvisation is certainly intertwined with his need for expression and his innate creativity. In all seasons we encounter improvisation in various events, from the construction of a song to the creation of a technical construction.
Although many believe that musical improvisation is an idiom of traditional music from different countries and from today’s music mainly jazz, in fact and even in the era of “classical” music, the need for improvisation existed and was manifested. The “Katenza” of a Concerto, for example, the point where the musician, during a pause in the orchestra, undertook to play a difficult and impressive part while showing his skillful skills, was completely improvised. Today, of course, this does not happen, since the cats are already written and memorized. Also “Fantasy“, this musical form that dates back to the 16th century, has a purely improvisational character while great composers and performers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt and others, were also great masters of improvisation.
Of course, in order for improvisation to be reduced to art in all these cases, it is necessary to have a system for exercising improvisational skills.
