The etymology of the word jazz remains unexplored although at times different opinions prevailed. According to one version, jazz got its name from the dancer Jazzbo Brown while another claims that the name jazz comes from the abbreviation of the name of a musician Charles (Charles, chas, jass, jazz) or Jasper. It is also said that the word jazz was formed from the French verb jaser (the New Orleans whites then spoke French) which means chatter, because chatter implies improvisation.
