A highly creative, innovative, and thoroughly extroverted school year is coming to its conclusion for the 3rd General Lyceum of Korydallos – “Melina Merkouri”. With the successful completion of this year’s European mobilities and the creation of a pioneering multichannel Digital Action Diary, our school community proves that a local public school can serve as a vibrant hub for international innovation and inclusion.
A School Open to the World
Throughout this school year, having secured the Erasmus+ European Accreditation, the 3rd General Lyceum of Korydallos – “Melina Merkouri” implemented a network of actions that broke through the boundaries of the traditional classroom.
The school evolved into a welcoming European hub, hosting educational delegations from Florence (IIS Galileo Galilei), Sorrento (ITN “Nino Bixio”), and Cagliari (ISS “Michele Giua”) in Italy, as well as La Rioja (IES Sagasta) in Spain. At the same time, a member of our teaching staff participated in Job Shadowing activities abroad, as part of our school’s participation in the Erasmus+ Consortium of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Piraeus.
Furthermore, through innovative eTwinning programs—such as “Humans and Machines: what makes us unique in the age of AI”—our students delved deep into the challenges of Artificial Intelligence, enhancing their critical thinking and digital literacy.
The Digital Diary: Innovation in Dissemination
The true innovation of this year’s efforts is captured in our Digital Action Diary. Moving beyond standard records, the school established a modern, comprehensive presence on the internet and social media, empowering students with vital 21st-century digital skills.
The entire timeline of our activities, the students’ hands-on experiences, their digital creations, and video reviews are fully accessible to the public. This content offers complete transparency and serves as a source of inspiration for the wider educational community through the school’s official YouTube channel, our dedicated Erasmus Blog, and our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
A Collective Success for the Community
The successful implementation of these demanding programs was not the work of a few, but the result of an inspiring, collective effort. Students, teachers, and parents worked tirelessly as a team, proving that education is a shared responsibility.
The cooperation with the Municipality of Korydallos was also crucial to the success of the hosting programs. The local authorities actively supported the school’s initiatives, enhancing the reception events and showcasing the city’s cultural identity to our European guests.
Our Philosophy: Inclusion and Equal Opportunities
The 3rd General Lyceum of Korydallos “Melina Merkouri” remains firmly committed to the principles of a public, inclusive school. For us, innovation is not a privilege but a fundamental right for every student in our neighborhood.
Through these European programs, all children—regardless of their background—were given the opportunity to travel, collaborate, feel like equal European citizens, and acquire invaluable life skills.
