2nd Primary School of Agios Nikolaos, Istituto Comprensivo “Via del Calice” and Emine Türkan İkiz Primary School held their first virtual meeting with the participation of administrators, teachers and students within the scope of the “Live Mobile, EatHealthy,Catch Quality” Erasmus + project.
Within the scope of Erasmus + project; Online meetings between partner schools took place from 24 to 27 October 2022 on the “Go to meeting” platform. Principals, 300 students and 10 teachers and 40 parents of students from all schools of the three countries attended.
Within the scope of the project, teachers, students, and parents introduce themselves and their schools with the theme of “Combating Obesity”. They shared videos about their city and school. Each school team explained what each school offers to provide students with a suitable lifestyle. The Italian team showed the timeline and meeting objectives of the Erasmus+ project. Each school summarized the students in their diaries of what they ate and what sports they did for a month. Some critical points emerged from the comparison of the results: The emphasis was on the fact that children took in too many calories compared to their daily needs, the snacks they ate were often high in calories but low in nutrition, the consumption of animal protein and high-glycemic index carbohydrates such as simple sugars was excessive. It was stated that children ate less fruits and vegetables rich in fiber and vitamins, and fish was generally lacking on the table. However, it was noted that children were willing to eat industrially prepared food, and they often ate outside the home (too much fat, too salty and too
much sugar). Some children do very little physical activity. It was emphasized that some of the children usually do their homework and watch television after school. It was discussed that children should move and play in addition to their daily responsibilities. At the meeting, scientific studies carried out; It was said that malnourished children tend
to gain weight, however, children with sedentary habits such as reading and watching are also prone to obesity.World food day posters were introduced during virtual meetings and children exercised with their physical education teacher.
At the end of the meeting, the following was emphasized: It is in our hands to eat healthy, live well, improve the quality of life and live an active life. Therefore, the meeting ended with good intentions and wishes by stating how important it is to be able to eat right and adopt an active lifestyle to our children.
