VIOLIN THAT PLAYED ITS LAST NOTE ON THE TITANIC RETURNS HOME AFTER MORE THEN 100 YEARS
The violin played on the Titanic as it sank on that fateful night in 1912 has been returned to the home it came from.
The world famous instrument ,which was played by bandmaster Wallace Hartley ,was returned to his home in Dewsbury.Hartley ,who was a second-class passenger on board,went down with the ship and sadly died in the sinking.He led the eight member band and started to play the violin to keep the passengers calm as the crew loaded the lifeboats.Many of the survivors claimed that Hartley bravely played till the very end.
Sadly none of the band members survived ,but the instrument was discovered in 2006 and will be sold in an auction alongside a leather luggage case initialled W.H.H. : Wallace placed the violin in the case before going into the cold North Atlantic on the morning of April 15,1912!
