 QUESTION: What is self-esteem?

Self esteem is your opinion of yourself. Body image is how a person feels about his or her own physical appearance. For many people, especially people in their early teens, body image can be closely linked to self-esteem. That is because as kids develop into teens, they care more about how others see them. When one overcomes negativity he/she can achieve a higher self esteem.

 

Task

You are part of the Advisor Committee that helps incoming students from Primary School get accustomed to Junior High School  life. Your role is to inform them about how they will gain confidence in order to deal with the difficulties they will encounter in the new environment. First you will need to research the area of Self-esteem, answering the questions provided at the Presentation Framework at the bottom of this page.   Then it is up to your team to create a Power Point Presentation to communicate the information that you have found.  Put your findings in an appropriate format and present this to your audience.

Objectives

– to learn what is self confidence and self-esteem
– to adopt ways and strategies of self improvement
– to develop a feeling of personal value, self-respect and self appreciation
– to recognize their personal value detecting the positive sides of their personality

Process

1. Divide your research among members of the group.  Set deadlines so that you will have all work completed on time. Use the Team Management_Log  to help you.
2. Answer all the questions on your page. You are to use the Resources provided on your team’s page.  Keep track of which site you use to answer individual questions.
3. Decide what type of format you will use to communicate the information you have found.  Be creative in your approach.  Be sure that all the answers from the questions are answered in your product.
4.Divide your duties as evenly as you can when you plan. Your group’s work will be evaluated and your individual work will also be assessed.  See  the Evaluation  section.
5.Your team will make a formal presentation of your product to the class who will then evaluate the effectiveness of your communication.  A professional presentation will have a positive effect on the audience’s impression of your work.
