Hasan Ferdi Turgutlu İlköğretim Okulu
Our school, which was opened in 2009, provides compulsory education for students between 7-14. We are located away from the city centre. Our school building is close to nature and some sports facilities. Besides school subjects, we offer some social activities, like chess, folk games, sports activities, making of model planes etc. The school is in a newly established neighbourhood; and thus most of our pupils come from migrant families. Some of them have financial problems and they do not have the opportunity to continue their education after compulsory education. The majority of these migrant parents are either unemployed or make a living by playing instruments at social events, like weddings. Divorce rate is very high among our parents, and this is the biggest reason of behavioural problems we observe in some of our pupils. For instance, there are a few pupils who are inclined to violence. On the other hand, we have some pupils who are isolated from their environment and have problems in communication.

Our school is located in a quite big city Bydgoszcz, in the centre of Poland. The school is attended by pupils between 7-13. Our pupils parents professions vary from doctors, lawyers or engineers to industrial employees. Some of them are unemployed and have financial problems. 98% of our pupils are of Polish origin. They learn English as a second language from the first grade. 35% of our pupils have specific special needs, including physical and mental disabilities, catered for in a school-based rehabilitation centre with a team of five specialist physiotherapists and in full-time attendance. This is a mixed ability school and 15% of our pupils would be considered Gifted and Talented. About 10% of pupils are at risk of social exclusion. There are several specialist staff, eg. a teacher who uses animals as part of the therapy for children with specific needs; Art, drama and music therapies are also practised.

ΓΑΛΛΙΑΣ :

Ecole La Cachette
Our school is situated at the end of our small town, quite far away from all the facilities.
There are 5 classes with pupils from 3 to 11 years old. English is taught as a second language starting at the age of 5.
There are pupils from different backgrounds, quite wealthy families and quite poor families. Unemployment is becoming a greater problem as years go by.
We’ve had non-French speaking migrants coming from Northern Africa a few years ago or from Portugal recently, there are not many different nationalities in our school. We have a few pupils with communicative problems and also pupils with mental or physical handicap. Many of our pupils stop school when it is not compulsary anymore.
An important aim of the teachers is to open the mind of the pupils; the families tend to live and stay at the same place and teachers try to show the pupils and families that there are things to see and to do outside of the town. we make penfriends with pupils from different countries, we organise many outdoor activities and parents are welcome at school very ofetnly to help teachers in different activies.

ΕΛΛΑΔΑΣ :

4ο ΔΗΜΟΤΙΚΟ ΣΧΟΛΕΙΟ ΧΑΙΔΑΡΙΟΥ
Our school was founded in 1963 in Chaidari, a suburb near Athens. It provides compulsory education for students between 6 and 12, though there is an exception for students aged 13 or 14 that come from an institution right next to the school. This institution is for abandoned children (all of whom are girls) and although they are not of high expectations as far as lessons are concerned they are quiet and well-behaved. As a matter of fact, the majority of our students are well-behaved and most of their families belong to the middle class. They are very keen on sports and traditionally they are very good at them, especially football and basketball. They have won a lot of prizes in various local tournaments.
We have 234 students (most of whom are Greek and the others are immigrants) and, fortunately, we haven’t got any particular behavioral problems so far.

ΒΟΥΛΓΑΡΙΑΣ :

Основно училище ” Епископ Софроний Врачански”
Our school was founded in 1941. The school includes children of compulsory school age from 6 to 14 years. It taught children of Romany origin. The school is located in the Romany neighbourhood. It has good facilities, computer labs, playground, gymnasium. Learning objects is combined with the participation of students in various sports, artistic and scientific events. Over 80% of students live in socially-disadvantaged or large families. A large majority of parents have only primary or elementary education. They are unemployed. This affects the social integration of students. They hardly made social contacts with children outside the city. Have not visited other cities and countries. Their knowledge of the world are not complete. Low social status of parents also influenced attitudes towards the education of their children. Students spend more time in the computer room, as no other activities. They lose the ability to communicate and carry out social contact.

ΣΛΟΒΕΝΙΑΣ :

Osnovna šola n.h. Maksa Pečarja
The school is situated in Črnuče, the former village that has developed into the suburbs of the capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana. This is mainly an area of private houses and some new industrial zones. There are more and more immigrants from other parts of Slovenia and also from former Yugoslav republics.

ΛΙΓΑ ΛΟΓΙΑ ΓΙΑ ΤΟ ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ :

In modern times, the developments in the virtual world are an indispensable part of our lives. It provides us with unlimited information and offers possibilities for communication with people who are on the other side of the world. However, when we look at our schools and try to find out how our students use the virtual world, we see most of them use only the internet as an isolated experience to find information and social networking by text. Thus in this project we aim to teach students different methods of engaging with the digital world, how to use the internet safely and to shine a light on the lives of children across Europe.
Students will carry out different real life activities throughout the project; and capture these to share with partner schools throughout the project. Thus they will engage in social activities designed to be shared rather than individual engagement with one computer. We will use professionals to channel our ideas into suitable forms for digital capture, digital collaborations and digital transmission. Thus the project takes a problem solving approach where children need to consider the activities they are to take part in, construct them so they can be accurately preserved and ensure the results are transparent for children in any language. This will reawaken social learning within each school as children work together for a real purpose. They will develop their entrepreneurial skills and rehearse the business skills they will need to be successful in a global economy.
Students will learn about lifestyles of other countries and thus, they will get to know different cultures. They will learn to share the elements of their cultures through the Internet and they will introduce their own culture to their peers abroad.
