RETHYMNO

The city of Rethymno, in the north coast of Crete, is the capital of the homonymous prefecture. Ancient Rithymna stood on the site of the modern city. It has about 15.000 inhabitants. You can visit the fine beach which stretches for 12 km. . You can also admire the Statue of Kostis Yamboudakis, the hero who put fire on the stored gunpowder and blew up the monastery of Arkadi. One of the major sites is also the Minaret Neratze.
